Overview of Sensory Movement

 

What is Sensory Movement?

Sensory Movement is a whole body approach, mind and body as one. I use sensory movement to provide the brain with potent information that awakens and creates the connections the brain needs for optimal learning and transformation.

What does Sensory Movement do?

Sensory Movement awakens the ability to increase our dynamic image of self, improve spatial orientation, awareness and the ability to perceive differences. The results are enhanced brain connections, integrated new learning and optimal functioning for my clients.

How does Sensory Movement create change and differences?

First, I observe through my lens and belief that my client’s capacity is limitless. I never make clients do something they’re not ready to do. I notice where my client is, physically and cognitively, each time they enter my office, instead of according to their age, diagnosis or developmental stage.

I observe where they are able to move and help them do that better. As this improves, I am able to communicate to parts or areas of the body that have not yet awakened. I trust my client’s brain will make sense of the information I feed it.

 

I use slow, subtle movements and variations of movements. By feeling and sensing movement done slowly and subtly, a person’s attention is drawn to the relationship of their body parts in action. This results in awareness of self, environment and to feeling and perceiving differences. When a session is complete, I give the brain time to integrate the session. Changes can be spontaneous or occur days to weeks later.

How is a lesson given?

I work with the whole dynamic system of the individual and I work with the ecosystem around them, which may include parents, grandparents, teachers, professionals, etc. There are two techniques I use during sessions: 

  • Hands-on private sessions, where I move the body using gentle touch and movement

  • Experiential sensory movement sessions, where you’re guided through a sequence of movements

Depending on the needs of the client, I can use both or one of these approaches.

How often does an adult or child need sessions?

I see adults once or twice a week. For babies and children, sessions are offered in clusters during a number of days, with two sessions each day.
